New research confirms what we already know: the benefits of daily physical exercise are substantial. However, this particular study revealed a strong association between inactivity and early death, and showed that even individuals with an increased Body Mass Index (BMI) benefited from daily physical activity, even just a brisk 20 minute walk.
The results of the study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Exercise, determined that lack of exercise was responsible for twice as many early deaths than obesity.
"This is a simple message: just a small amount of physical activity each day could have substantial health benefits for people who are physically inactive," said Professor Ulf Ekelund, the leader of the study.
