Orlando and its environs have long been home to a strong and dynamic population of seniors. As they age, the Central Florida Chapter of NAIPC is there to help educate and advocate to keep seniors healthfully and happily in their homes.

Speaker Information

Margaret Christenson, MPH, OTR/L, FAOTA, president of Lifease, Inc. a software company that has developed programs that link solutions to challenges that older people and those disabilities may have living independently in their chosen home setting. Margaret consults with architects, interior designers, businesses, home owners and has written two books and numerous articles on universal design, assistive technology, and adaptations of the living environment. Ms. Christenson was the Minnesota Occupational Therapist of the Year. She was indicted as a Fellow in the American Occupational Therapy Association and chaired both the Gerontology Special Interest Section of AOTA and the steering committee that developed their Environmental Modification Specialty Certification.

Kim Albritton, ASID, CAPS, principle designer and CEO of Focus Design Services of Lithia, Florida, an interior design and consulting firm that combines innovative design solutions with consultation and education intended to advance the practice of Inclusive Design principles. Mrs. Albritton's credentials include a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Design, with a Certified Aging in Place Specialist designation. She is an Allied Member of ASID and a member of the steering committee for Women in Architecture.

Secretary Charles T. Corley, Florida Department of Elder Affairs, appointed by Governor Rick Scott, Secretary Corley manages the activities of the Department and advocates for programs and initiatives that affect the lives 4.45 million Florida seniors. Secretary Corley’s thirty year professional experience involves administration and a direct service provider in both the public and private sectors, including the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) from 1985-2000. As a representative for the Governor on issues relating to the elderly, he has been extensively involved in the expansion of home and community-based programs as an alternative to nursing home placement since coming to work for the department.

Afternoon Feature! 2011 Home Design Competition Winner Presentation The Central Florida Aging in Place Chapter would like to invite you to be a part of our 2011 Aging in Place Home Design Competition! Florida Aging in Place professionals have competed to design a home featuring creative solutions for safe and independent living. Home designs will be judged prior to the event by a panel of experts and the winner will be awarded at the event. The chosen home design will meet competition requirements specifically for home dwellers that wish to Age in Place in the Central Florida Community.

2011 Home Design Competition

• Increase knowledge and awareness of those professionals who provide Aging in Place (AIP) home designs
• Generate a multi-disciplinary approach to home design to ensure that all the needs of the homeowner are met
• Inspire creativity among builders/designer within Central Florida that goes beyond Universal Design (UD)to meet the needs of our local aging community

• Narrative: Explanation on how occupational and medical needs of the family are met and enhanced by AIP/UD features
• Floor plan
• Site plan
• Interior/Exterior Elevations
• Optional submission pieces include additional drawings for emphasis of portions of plan
