Seniors Embrace Aging in Place – Rismedia

The new catch phrase among homeowners is “aging in place.” Instead of selling their homes and moving into retirement villages or assisted-living quarters, a growing number of older Americans are modifying their homes to make them more user-friendly as they age. Read More

Finds a Home in Atlanta

It’s a fact. Most people, when dreaming of their golden years, imagine themselves at home. Home is the place where memories are made and remembered. Home is the place that reflects a person, their family, and their dreams. Home is comfort. Yet, as a person grows older, it becomes increasingly difficult to remain living at home. Safety and injury become concerns. Social isolation creeps in. Spaces don’t serve their purpose any longer. Families find themselves needing information, needing support.

A Place for You. In Atlanta.

A place to find this support is a national not-for-profit organization called NAIPC, The National Aging in Place Council (naipc.org), and a chapter has just come to Atlanta.

Aging in Place Is…

A choice. A mission. A community of people and professionals who act to provide resources and services that champion living long, independent, productive lives at home and in the community. Aging in place considers physical demands, mental and emotional barriers, visual and auditory challenges of the individual as well as the home environment and services designed to empower independence.

NAIPC of Greater Atlanta

Founded by Candace Dubrof, a home livability consultant, and MaryLea Quinn, social worker and community care coordinator, to increase awareness of Aging in Place and coordinate resources, the duo formed the Greater Atlanta Chapter of NAIPC. A diverse group of professionals from financial planners, to chefs, to builders and designers, to assistive technology professionals was organized around the central idea that it is best to remain at home when possible. NAIPC of Greater Atlanta is growing rapidly and will be providing information at the Atlanta Home Show, Home for the Ages exhibit. To contact the organization and learn more, please email NAIPCatlanta@gmail.com, visit the national website at http://naicp.org, or get the latest information at the chapter's local website at http://ageinplace-atlanta.org
