A Step Ahead: Central Florida’s Vision for Aging in Place


This is the second yearly event by the NAIPC. The Central Florida Chapter is working diligently to create a symbiotic relationship between the home builders and remodelers’ industries and the medical community.

Carolyn Sithong, Occupational Therapist and director of the chapter, says "We have such a demand for housing that will accommodate our senior patients. We hope that events such as this will create awareness for the home building community as well as provide a resource for the medical community and their patients".

The following speakers are experts in development and design of communities and homes for boomers and seniors.

JACK L. BOWERSOX, a Manager with Life Wellness Communities Development Company, LLC. Mr. Bowersox is primarily responsible for overseeing the development of Not-for-profit Senior Housing Communities and will be speaking about senior housing needs, trends and concepts.

WILLIAM MANN, OTR, Ph.D. is Distinguished Professor and Chair of Occupational Therapy and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Florida and will be speaking about demographics, senior needs, and how to tie together all of the day’s information for your company’s success.

PETE SECHLER, RLA AICP Planner and Principal at Glatting Jackson, will be advising on how to incorporate Aging in Place concepts into new development.

SCOTT CLARK , Administrator Home Health and Wellness Services at Orlando Health Visiting Nurses Association will speak on health and community wellness as it applies to Central Florida.

Cost for admission is $10.00, breakfast and a box lunch are included. CAPS designation CEU’s will be provided.

A panel of Aging in Place professionals will be speaking about the importance of planning ahead and the essential elements to successfully "aging-in-place" and staying in your own home for the remainder of your life. In addition, we are seeking interested partner professionals to be charter members of our local National Aging in Place Council.

Aging Well - Celebrating National Aging in Place Week


Come join the 100 members of the SC Aging in Place Coalition**, as we celebrate National Aging in Place Week October 12th through October 16th. Three free events, taking place East of the Cooper, West of the Ashley, and Summerville, will have refreshments, door prizes, games and a fun sing-along, while educating attendees about aging in place resources. Music will be provided by Priscilla White, from Erie, PA, winner of the international "Aging Well Rocks" song competition for her song/video "Aging Well."
