Four Natural Ways to Promote Healthy Blood Circulation

Blood circulation is crucial to our overall health. It’s what carries away waste and gives our bodies oxygenated blood. Having the proper circulation helps prevent cramping, blood clots, headaches and varicose veins.

Of course, getting the right circulation can be a little difficult. So, instead of having to worry about seeing a vascular surgeon, read on to learn four natural ways to increase your blood circulation.

Go For a Walk
One of the easiest ways to give your circulation a boost is with regular exercise. Taking a walk around the park, neighborhood or city will do. Not only is crossing your legs bad for our posture, it’s also bad for our circulation as well. Putting one leg over the other while sitting puts a lot of pressure on it, which can restrict the blood flow. Make sure to regularly change your sitting position and go for a walk when you are able to.

Eat Foods with High Amounts of Iron
Iron is a very important mineral you cannot live without. If you are low on iron, it could inhibit proper blood flow. Make sure you’re consuming foods that are enriched with iron. In addition, garlic is also proven to help ward off blood clots.

Drink Tea
Studies have shown that drinking teas containing antioxidants helps dilate the arteries and possibly prevent heart disease. Teas with the highest levels of antioxidants are black, green and white. If you aren't a fan of tea, you can substitute with beetroot juice, which has been proven to have similar effects. Like tea, beetroot juice boosts flexibility of your blood vessels, can lower blood pressure and increase blood flow.

Kick Back and Relax
When someone is stressed, it negatively effects your blood flow, as well as increasing your blood pressure. Finding ways to reduce stress can significantly improve your blood flow and keep your blood pressure in check. However, getting rid of stress is not always an easy thing to do.

Try the following tips to help you get rid of stress:

  • Deep breathing;
  • Meditation;
  • Yoga;
  • Exercise; and
  • Indulging your hobby.
